Reimagining the Joel Award
During the June IPNA meeting we discussed the renaming of our neighborhood community service award. As you may know, the award was created in the mid-1970s by Robert Griggs, the founder of Inman Park Restoration, as a way for young, pioneering neighbors to recognize one another’s efforts in revitalizing our long-neglected neighborhood. The award became known as the Joel Award in recognition of Joel Hurt, the surveyor and developer of Inman Park.
As awareness has grown in recent years about Joel Hurt and his history of using and abusing convict labor, his name has become uncomfortable for many. (For reference, see Slavery by Another Name by Douglas Blackmon.) Clearly, Joel Hurt doesn’t represent the values of 21st century Inman Park. It is time for us to select a new name for the award.

IPNA May 20, 2020, Business Meeting Agenda
Dear Neighbors:
During this pandemic, we’ve all been told to shelter in place.
But what about the most vulnerable among us who have no place to shelter?
As those of you who came to our April 15 IPNA Zoom Meeting heard from Councilmember Amir Farokhi, the City of Atlanta is testing our homeless neighbors for COVID-19 and is housing those who test positive in a downtown hotel that has been converted to isolation housing. Homeless COVID-19 patients are cared for in the isolation hotel, giving them a safe place to recover and helping prevent the further spread of the disease. Another local hotel is being converted into housing for the city’s homeless population to keep our most vulnerable neighbors safe.
IPNA BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINEES
by Neil Kinkopf, Nominating Committee Chair
As you may know, the IPNA by-laws require that in April of each year the Nominating Committee bring a slate of nominees to the membership. The slate of nominees will fill the Board positions whose terms expire in June. This year those positions are President, Treasurer, Vice President for Zoning, and Vice President for Planning. Additional (which is to say competing) nominations may be made from the floor at the April IPNA meeting. By the end of the April IPNA meeting, nominations will be closed and an election will be held at the May IPNA meeting.

IPNA April 15, 2020, Business Meeting
Welcome and Introduction of Newcomers
Dear IPNA Members:
Our April 15 IPNA meeting will be held on Zoom. This will be the first ever virtual IPNA Business Meeting, so please bear with us as we figure things out.
Most of you probably already know the sad news that the festival has been postponed/cancelled but here is the official statement:
Our top priority is the safety and health of our patrons, artists, guests, staff, vendors and community. Therefore, due to COVID-19 concerns, Inman Park Spring Festival & Tour of Homes, scheduled to take place April 24-26, 2020 will be postponed or cancelled. We are evaluating if a rescheduled event is possible or if we will see you next April, 2021. We will announce more information in the next few weeks. We encourage all to adhere to the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
