DeKalb Complete Streets Letter of Support

The IPNA voted to write a letter of support for the DeKalb Complete Streets project. There is an emphasis on safety and accessibility. The letter will be sent to Councilmember Amir Farokhi and Tom Weyandt with Renew Atlanta.

Letter:

The Inman Park Neighborhood Association (IPNA) strongly supports the DeKalb Avenue Complete Street project because it will enhance the safety and accessibility of a primary Atlanta eastside corridor for people who walk, require ADA access, bike, drive, and take MARTA.

INPA supports the proposed changes to Dekalb Avenue through the Renew Atlanta Infrastructure Bond Program on the following merits:

  • Resurfacing and restriping Dekalb Avenue and removing the reversible lane

  • Replacing the reversible lane with a dedicated turn lane

  • Installation of fully marked and signalized ADA compliant pedestrian crosswalks

  • Completion of a multi-use trail for added bicycle and pedestrian safety

After years of delay and waiting for action on this critical Complete Street project, IPNA wants to ensure that the criteria of a Complete Street, prioritizing safe mobility for all street users, regardless of age or ability, is implemented. We are eager to see this project fully completed in 2020.
