Farewell to Oreon Mann

Oreon MannOreon Mann's Memorial Service Details

It will be on Tuesday, September 4 at 6 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta.  You may think that you know where this church is located but you need to know that they have moved out of their previous building as of three weeks ago.  They are now in an office building at 1190 West Druid Hills Drive NE, #150, Atlanta, GA 30329.  GPS should take you to the correct place but, just in case, take I-85 to North Druid Hills Road exit and turn left.  Go past the Salvation Army church and turn left at the McDonald’s.  Do not go as far as Buford Highway.  There will be a short reception immediately following the service.

Claudia has asked that no flowers be sent.  They would prefer that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.  You should tell the charity to send the acknowledgment to Claudia Ammann at 8746 South 1405 West, West Jordan, UT  84088.  They would also be happy to receive letters and cards at that same address.

Claudia has also asked that people share memories of Oreon at the service.  There will be a period in the service where people will be encouraged to talk.  There is no need to tell anyone in advance if you wish to talk. Longtime Inman Park resident, Oreon Mann, died this week according to a representative from his apartment complex. Oreon was active in the book club which he founded 39 years ago, Inman Park Tree Watch and Trees Atlanta. He moved into the neighborhood in 1973 according to his LinkedIn page. At every Inman Park Neighborhood Association meeting Oreon was seated in the front row, eager to give details of the upcoming book club or second a motion on the floor. His love of trees and nature could be seen by his involvement with the Inman Park Tree Watch and Trees Atlanta. A good neighbor and friend Oreon volunteered for festival and showed up for the annual holiday party in his festive Scottish kilt where he would show off his moves on the dance floor.

No funeral information is currently available. He passed away peacefully at his home of natural causes. He is survived by at least one grandson. Inman Park was lucky to have such a good neighbor, friend and volunteer for so many years.

If we get any further information regarding memorial plans we'll update it here.

Oreon was so generous with his time, and hosted book club frequently. When he had finished reading a book for book club, he would email the group and offer to loan the book. Very kind and thoughtful. May he rest in peace. Carolyn Kaplan
